Vista Sleep, Hibernation Internet Connection Lost

Discussion in 'Windows Vista Networking' started by Frederick Smith, Oct 20, 2007.

  1. Hi Robert, Barb,
I went back to the factory, HP style. I used my recovery DVD to restore the
laptop to factory default image. I then installed only the Windows updates
    recommended, no driver updates.
I have the same issue as in my previous post. If my internet connection is
restored after Sleep or Hibernation, it is lost after about a minute or so.
Power cycling the router seems to reconnect, or using IPCONFIG /RELEASE and
    IPCONFIG /RENEW.
Is this a Vista issue? Router? Check my previous post for specifics.
    Thanks,
    Fred

  2. Oh Barb,
No anti-virus installed at this point to interfere.

could you please quote the history of this with your next reply? Or
    repost in the original thread?

  5. I works fine with a static IP and DNS. The Netgear(router) Tech I spoke to
helped me set this up as a work around. She also told me she experienced the
same problem with her Vista Premium PC.

  6. I am not sure what you mean. My original post is dated 10/16 and has the my
name and Email. This is where we discussed all of this prior to my restoring
    the laptop to factory.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I don't have time to
search for the history of your problem and refer back to a different
"thread". If you could find the last post that you refer to and
paste it in here so that we can see the history all in one place, it
would be helpful. It is considered a standard.

  9. I am not sure what you mean. Do you want me to go through the "thread", copy
and paste, everything into one message posted here?

  10. Ok, I copied and pasted everything from your last reply in the previous
reply/thread. Let me know if it sufficient?

  11. Ok,

    After the factory reset:
    6/21/06 Version: 6.2.0.126

    After Windows Update:
    5/3/07 Version 65.7.4.0
I just copied what I found under "Driver Details".

Next, I used the update, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933872.

NOTE: I have not yet installed AVG Anti-virus software.

These are all steps we covered before the factory reset.

looking at this, if you have applied all the KB "fixes" and tried
the different available drivers (including any available on the NIC
    manufacturer's website
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us ), I believe it
IS time to give MS support a call.

  14. Thanks for the link. I went to their web site and used their detection
feature to get the latest driver they had available. It seems to have the
same version number as the one I already had installed from Windows Update.

  15. So, when is the best time to call MS to avoid long wait times, etc.? And,
what info should I prepare before I call?

OK, then I'm out of suggestions and it's time for you to give the
official MS Support folks a call.

  18. Hmm, I am tempted to either,

    1. Get the latest Netgear router in this series, WGR614v8. I originally had
the WGR614v6 and swapped it for a WGR614v7.

    2. Try another brand that supposedly is "Vista Ready".

What do you think? Is it worth a try?

  20. Well, if all things are the same. WGR614v8 works for you. I had WGR614v7
    [and before that WGR614v6].

Netgear told me that they had more trouble reports from Vista Premium users
than Vista Basic. I have Premium. Is this what you have?

Microcenter [AKA Rent-A-Center] has the WGR614 on sale for $34.99. The
sticky point is that the packaging states WGR614NA. It does not reveal the
    version number.

Maybe I could go back with my cell phone and read off some serial numbers to
a Netgear tech until I find a WGR614v8? [This is assuming that the WGR614v8
will resolve this issue and Microcenter has any WGR614v8(s)]
