After an SP2 update failed with error code 80070570. I spent some time
looking for a solution. Microsoft Help is definitely an oxymoron, offering
nothing more than Google for it (OK, not in those words ;-).

Bing offered up various possibilities. None of the suggested solutions
helped but I found the information that it indicated a corrupt file. The
solution I came up with was to find the download directory c
\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ and delete the most recent
subdirectory, in this case called cd2b15b1a90e884578188440a1660b12. After
this a second attempt at updating went smoothly.

    0x80070570 - ERROR_FILE_CORRUPT
If relating to the WU or MU Page, recommend re-installing the ActiveX
    controls
If relating to the HotFix - then re-download the fix manually

  5. Tough noogies! To avoid confusion, please begin a new thread about your
specific problems. State your IE version and full Windows version (e.g.,
WinXP SP3; Vista SP2) in your first post.

  6. Then WTF did you post a "Me, too!" reply TO SOMEONE ELSE'S THREAD if you
weren't getting the same Error? Geeze...

    :

Now let's get this straight, you hijack a thread that is about 80070570 and
yet your error code is 8024400A.

The information I provided was for error code 80070570 not 8024400A.

Start your own thread or if you insist on hijacking other folks threads, at
least make it on the same error code.

In fact deleting "cd2b15b1a90e884578188440a1660b12" directory in c\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ will fix the problem for SP2 every time as this directory refers to SP2. Well, at least in Home premium, as to the other versions of vista I am not so sure.

After deleting it just go back to windows update close it and reopen it and PRESTO your back in business. You should have no further trouble unless the error or problem that caused the corruption occurs again in which case repeat again.
