I have just bought a new desktop computer with Windows Vista Home
Premium installed. How do I upgrade to Vista Ultimate??

Bugger. I peeked into my crystal ball to see what brand of computer you just
bought and the damned thing crashed and needs reformatting. Wouldn't that
just rip the saddle off a nightmare?

Now we're cooking on gas. A propriety computer usually comes with a system
recovery disc and in your case that disc would contain Vista Home Premium.
Usually the Acer BIOS is geared to only accept that particular recovery
disc. I would be inclined to speak with the people who sold it to you to see
if you could buy a Vista Ultimate recovery disc for your model computer
before I rushed out and bought a Vista Ultimate DVD. Your computer specs are
ok to run Ultimate but you will need a ballsy video card too. I mentioned
    this as you didn't.

Yeah, I have Home Premium on one computer and Business on another but I
can't warm to Vista at all.

I just sat up a new Dell for my uncle, and really liked the video. My
eyesight is starting to fail I bought a new computer to get Vista. I
tried for weeks to download the program to test my old computer
without success. I finally stumbled upon a test on the AMD website. My
computer would have run Vista but would have to have some serious
upgrades. It's eight years old so I guess a new one was due.

I built a flash new computer for Vista and was a bit dissapointed at the
lack of speed so I installed Vista Business on an Athlon 64 powered machine
with good specs but it was slow too. Just for a giggle I installed Vista
Starter on what used to be a good fast computer but that one bogged right
from the start. I won't be throwing XP Pro out any time soon as on this
computer it performs very well. My Vistas were supplied so there is no loss
there and I guess I would have built the latest computer at some point. That
one won't be a loss. Time is nothing as I am retired and I have to keep
    occupied.

I am going to install an additional DVD Lightscribe drive, a 130 gig
hard drive, and 1Gb ddr2 memory. Will I have a problem with Vista
    verification?

I have no idea but when in doubt just do one at a time and check your
    activation after each change.
Enjoy your camping and fishing trip.

    "Dale" scribbled
Yes Dale, we know. However there are a couple of us who want to find out
for ourselves just how big a piece of crap it is.

Well, I got my new computer with Vista installed, unpacked it hooked
everything up and 15 minutes later it hung up on the "Welcome screen"
1 hour later I unplugged it. After that it wouldn't do anything.
I am awaiting delivery of my second one on Monday. Hope it does
    better!
