Vista won't shut down

Discussion in 'Windows Vista Talk' started by Bobbie Seabolt, Dec 1, 2007.

  1. When I go to Shut Down (in the normal manner) the screen says its shutting
down, but it doesn't complete the process. I have to either turn the power
strip off or hold the ON button to force it off.

Also, there is one more update out there that simply will NOT install.

Are these two problems connected? If they are - or if they are not - does
anyone have any insight into these problems?

The shutdown problem might be due to the update that won't install. Once you
get the update installed the shutdown problem might go away.
Browse to the folder "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\Install" and
double click on any EXE files you find in there. This will initiate a manual
    install of the "stuck" updates.
Follow all of the installation prompts, reboot, and see if your problems are
    gone.
