First off I will explain I cannot view the help files in
W98 Troubleshooters help in the right pane. When I go to
start, help and click on Troubleshooting then click on
Windows 98 Troubleshooters then click on any of the
subject below then click on the circle to open that help
then click next the right pane is blank. This is the only
part of the W98 help that is not working all other that do
not view compiled files is ok. I understand that Internet
Explorer has something to do with viewing these html files
in the W98 Troubleshooters. In the "about" the name is
HTML Help Control Version, version 5.2.3735.0 copyright
1995-2002. I don't know if I changed anything and have
gone to system and used file checker but even if there was
a changed file I don't know what file to restore since W98
help is very large and is broken into many help files. Is
it possible that I am missing a viewer? I have been
researching this for several days now and can't find a
solution. Is there any way I can uninstall W98 help and
reinstall it? If you can help me please do so ASAP.

Kathy, you should post this in a newsgroup that's more appropriate for
your problems. This is for windows update.

Try one for windows 98 and/or internet explorere.

    Please read the KB article
    Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-048
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (824145)
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-048.asp
    an excerpt:
"This update also sets the kill bit on the following ActiveX controls:
    Description File Name CLSID
    Windows Trouble Shooter Tshoot.ocx 4B106874-DD36-11D0-8B44-00A024DD9EFF

These controls have been found to contain security vulnerabilities and are no longer supported by Internet Explorer. To protect customers who have this control installed, this update helps prevent the control from running or from being reintroduced onto users' systems by setting the kill bit for this control."

Most are outdated and there were only a few.
