Want Smaller Font Size

Discussion in 'Windows Vista General Discussion' started by Jonathan Wood, Jun 12, 2007.

  1. I've bought a new Dell computer with Vista.

I found where I can change the font DPI. However, I'm only able to make the
font bigger and not smaller. The main dialog has a choice of 96 (the
default) or 120 DPI. And if I go into Custom DPI, I cannot go any smaller
than 100%. If I enter less than 100%, it just changes back to 100%. And I
can drag the ruler to the right but not the left.

Looking at my old XP machine, I see it allows me to go smaller than 100%.
Any ideas why Vista is preventing this?

    Thanks for any tips.

    Hi Jonathan,

I don't know on that, but you can adjust font size for the windows
    here:
    1. Right click desktop.
    2. Click Personalize.
    3. Click "Window Color and Appearance".
    4. Click "Open classic appearance properties for more color options".
    (In light blue)
    5. Click Advanced button. (See screenshot below)
    6. Click on the windowd text (at top) and change the font size. (Boxed
    in red in screenshot)

    266

    7. Click OK and OK again to apply.

    Hope this helps some,
    Shawn

  3. Thanks for the tip. It seems like that is different than changing the DPI
though. I may play with it some more when I get some more time but I'm
pretty certain it wouldn't affect all the fonts in the same way.

    Jonathan,

It is different than the DPI, but I believe Vista will not go lower
than the 100%. My x64 Vista Home Premium will not either. This will
individually change the font size for Context windows (right click),
Toolbar and Tool Menu in windows, Title Bar in windows, and Message Text
in pop-up Windows. For everything else there is usually an option to
lower the font size too. (EX: IE7) It's a little more work than a
simple DPI change, but it's the only workaround that I know of other
    than getting a bigger monitor.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn
