Want to get last Connectix DOS additions...

Discussion in 'Virtual PC' started by Licensed User, Jun 14, 2004.

  1. I am still running version 5.1 of VPC and will probably stick to using
it because it works better for me than the trial version of VPC 2004 I
tried. Back when Connectix was still supporting it you could download
updated versions of the DOS additions; well, I'd like to find the last
Connectix version of said additions. I thought I had them but must have
lost the disk image somewhere. So, if anyone can help me locate the
file I would be most appreciative.

According to the Wayback Machine the old URL was:
    http://www.connectix.com/support/vpc_additions.html

    The filename was:
    http://www.connectix.com/downloadcenter/misc/DOS_Additions_vpcw.zip

And the version was: "Latest Additions Version: 010021"

Obviously wayback doesn't have the file archived and googling,
allthewebbing, altavistaing, hotbotting, lycosing and dogpiling for the
    filename have turned up nothing.

I do have the MS image but the fshare.exe on there is not compatible
with MS-DOS 6.22's EMM386 which I specifically need to have.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  2. Virtual PC 5.1 shipped with the 010021 version of the DOS additions - so it
should be on your install media.

Only Microsoft would have rights to redistribute that file. And they
don't offer it as a download that I'm aware of.

  4. Thank you for the response, unfortunately my install media is for
version 4.0 of VPCW. I upgrade to 5.1 with a file named: vpcw51
_updater_102102.exe. This installs the additions iso but I don't see a
dos additions vfd file and I don't see the DOS additions on the iso.

I have since found one other version of the vfd but I don't know what
version it is - is there a way to tell? The one I found has this:
    ---
Volume in drive B has no label.
    Volume Serial Number is 2204-07D2

    Directory of B:\

    07/27/2001 11:04 AM <DIR> srcfiles
    07/27/2001 11:18 AM 555 DosAdd.bat
    1 File(s) 555 bytes

    Directory of B:\srcfiles

    07/27/2001 11:04 AM <DIR> .
    07/27/2001 11:04 AM <DIR> ..
    07/26/2001 11:27 AM 39 AUTO.t
    07/26/2001 11:03 AM 5,241 CDROM.SYS
    01/31/2002 06:06 PM 57 CONFIG.T
    08/06/2002 02:36 PM 13,029 FSHARE.EXE
    07/26/2001 11:06 AM 128 IDLE.COM

    Total Files Listed:
    6 File(s) 19,049 bytes
    3 Dir(s) 1,435,648 bytes free
    ---

The CDROM.SYS says "Connectix CD-ROM Driver, Version 2.0.1" and
the FSHARE.EXE says "Virtual PC folder sharing v4.0".

    Is this it?

  5. No - the 4.0 version won't be the 010021 additions. Unfortunately I do not
know of any way for you to get the 010021 Dos additions.

  6. Well, that's a fair answer. Thanks anyway, I'm sure I'll manage. :)
