    Windows XP Media Center Machine.

In the past all .wav files I encountered played in WMP 10
Clearly I dont user every possible .wav with every different codec, I am a
    casual user of WMP.
I noticed a few days ago, some .wav files would not play, no error message,
    during play im WMP.
Though when I paused and played again I would get an error message
approximatelyLets call those files the that wont play in WMP the (problem files)
For comparison purpose I tried to play the (problem files) in Itunes which
came with the computer .. no separate purchase.
The (problem files) will play in Itunes. Itune does what WMP will not do.
    Success in Itunes.
I upgraded yesterday to WMP 11 in an attempt to solve the problem.
Failure again in WMP 11. (problem files) will not play
If you would like me to post a file somewhere .. please tell me where .. I
just dont know where to do it.
    Thanks

I did download Window Media Encoder 9 series slightly before I noticed the
problem. I dont know the relevance if any of that action.

I also download Windows Media Center Rollup 2 as well. One must do that to
    download WMP 11.

    More info
Audio Converter, GSpot, Windows Media encoder.
Thanks again for your patience. I really dont want to use the tools listed
    in the line above.

When I use the built it context click menu
    Convert Audio Format
Windows Audio Converter is launched, it fails to convert file.
    Details:
The file cannot be converted because it uses an unrecognized codec

NEXT I used Windows Media Encoder 9 Seriers. ( I dont really want to)
    WME was successful and converted
    ..wav to .wma
I played the .WMA file in Windows Media Center
    Action: Convert file

    I installed the
    ac3 filter from
    http://ac3filter.net/
    It solved the immediate problem.

    I did NOT test extensively.
The clues were in front of me.
??Why did I wait so long??
I was actually paranoid about security and running their exectuble.
    Need suddenly overcame fear.
