Weird Wireless Problem With Vista

    Hello folks,

My Dad has an Acer laptop running Vista. If we look under wireless
connections the network for our home shows up twice - it would be
called ANDY and ANDY 2. I have checked on my iMac and there definitely
is no other network called ANDY 2 in our vacinity, so I am not sure why
it shows up twice on his computer.

When we are connected to ANDY the signal strength would be 34% and
classed as poor. The other network called ANDY 2, when you are not
connected to it, shows signal strength as excellent. However, if you
connect to ANDY 2 the signal strength drops down to poor and the ANDY
network's signal strength then becomes excellent.

Would anyone have any ideas about this? There was also a programme on
the computer called Acer internet management, I think, and I had to
disable it as it was dropping the connection a whole load of times.

    Andy.

A few months ago I set up my Vista64 machine and had what sounds similar to
the problems you are having. Unfortunately, I can't now remember the
details. The first suggestion I have is this: Delete all the connections
and wireless attachments showing up on your OS. Then go into the control
panel Network and sharing center if you are not already there and go thru
the set up commands on the left. I remember that XP was an easy set up an
Vista was very difficult. Hope this helps a little.
