Hello everyone. I have a client that Has SBS and it needs to be redone (was
browsing internet on it) so this is the setup.
    20 users
    3 GHz Intel core2duo CPU
    4 gigs of ecc ram
    2 500 gig hds in raid 1
1 80 gig was being used for shadow copies
    1 external 500 gig
Acronis true enterprise image with universal restore, Symantec true exec
    (cannot remember the name)
    Avg for exchange

What is your recommendation to partition this server?

In addition, how would I install the r2 components egg install server, do
all updates, than r2 because I have come across some issues with wsus
    crashing constantly.

  2. Hi Donald:

SBS 2003 or 2008? Standard or Premium?

If 2003, and SQL is not in the picture here you can do just fine with 25 to
35 GB for the System Partition and the rest for data. The 80 for shadow
copies - do you mean a discrete spindle or a partition? You might also
consider a separate drive/ partition for WSUS data, as it is not critical to
    be backed up.

As for the external, you should consider a second or even a third external,
as the goal should be to keep one drive out of the office at all times.

Do I see two AV products? Not familiar with anything Symantec, so I wonder
what it adds to the mix. AVG offers an integrated product for SBS that
seems to work ok and is less costly than separate products.

  3. Partitions:
    50GB OS, rest DATA.

Complete the full wizard based installation from the (basically SP1) CD set.
    Run the CEICW.
    Install R2 technologies CD.
Install TIS, make full image, schedule incremental/differentials.
Allow R2 WSUS to operate for a few days, applying updates as per its
recommendations. DO NOT allow it to update you to WSUS3.

2wks from now, approve WSUS3. (which should actually update you to WSUS3
