Then why does the WHDC list it as a free, non-beta download?? Sounds like
someone goofed and didn't put the non-beta, ongoing discussion type, area on
    connect after beta test over.

For a brief period of time earlier this year the WDK v 6000 was in
fact openly downloadable from the WHDC site. Now access to it is a bit
of a mystery, except if you have an MSDN license. I have no idea what
is going on with this. It appears to be some sort of process screw-up
    at Microsoft.

The RTM version of WDK 6000 is indeed downloadable from the
    WLK/WDK/WDF Microsoft Connect site.

From the WHDC site I see that depending on which links I choose to
follow I can either order the old w2k3sp1 ddk here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/ddk/orderddkcd.mspx, or
download it at no cost here:

Oh, my god, but does it mean we just buy it from now on?

  6. no, you can freely download it from microsoft connec.t it was moved off of
WHDC for bandwidth reasons. The number of failed downloads when it was
hosted on WHDC was very very high. The connect site has a much better
    successful download rate

Well, since the WDK/WLK/WDF area not available to new subscribers any longer,
could you post the direct link to the EXE or IMG file for it? The WDK does
contain a number of files that were not part of the 2K3, XP or 2K DDKs, but
IMHO should have been. Thank you...

No I can't post that link. Or more precisely I could post the link to
the connect site but it wouldn't do you any good as you have to
register and login in with appropriate crypto-id (a ms passport). So
you have to go to the connect site, get yourself into the WDK/LDK beta
program, and the find the downloads section.

  10. Mark just did, in his post above yours. It's in the Microsoft connect site,
for which you have to request and register. You can also download it from
the MSDN site ... but sorry ... you have to be at least at a subscription
level for the WDK/DDK, and that of course will cost some money.

  11. This link, repeated from below, tells you all you need to know.

You have to either register for the beta, which means you have to request to
get into an appropriate beta and then be granted entrance, or you have to
pay for an appropriate MSDN subscription that include the WDK.

Doran is correct. The Vista RTM WDK was moved over to Connect from WHDC
because of the size. The WHDC page now points you over to connect to
download the WDK. Moving the download to Connect was deliberate due to all
the failed download attempts like Doran mentioned. The WDK is still free off
    the connect site.

The latest LH Server Beta 3 WDK release is available on the WDK/WLK/WDF
connect site now. Even if you are not previously signed up on the beta
program, you just need your .NET passport to enroll now. This link will
provide all the details to enroll & participate:
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/DevTools/WDK/betawdk.mspx

If you do not see Windows Logo Kit (WLK), Windows Driver Kit (WDK) and
Windows Driver Framework (WDF) in the Available Connections list, then you
are already part of the program. If this is the case:
    1. On the left under Connect Home, click My Participation
    2. On the Sign In page, enter your ID for Microsoft Connect.
    3. On the My Participation page, click the Connection titled Windows Logo
Kit (WLK), Windows Driver Kit (WDK) and Windows Driver Framework (WDF).
    4. On the left under Connect Home, click Downloads.

Once on the downloads page, the first on the list will be "WDK Longhorn
Server Beta 3". If you are still having isues, let me know.
