Why is 5744 being called RC2 ?

5744 is an edw interim build of the RTM branch. How does that qualify an
interim build to be named RC2 ? Shouldn't RC2 come from an RC2 branch ?

I guess that all depends on how you look at it
they've done RC1 Twice with build 5600 and 5728 that didn't seem to make
    much sense either
    I'm guessing that RC2 5744 differs significantly from 5600 and 5728
or maybe the RC1 builds were no were near what they wanted and decided to go
    to RC2
but I guess only MSFT know the real reasons for the builds they release and
    what they call them

  3. Where do you think RC2 branch comes from?

  4. MS own the software and can call it what they like?

Most likely they want to highlight the fact that they are working hard and
chose to call it RC2 to reassure their base that they are listening to
feedback calling for such a release.

Yes but calling an interim build RC2 doesn't make it a true RC2 build. I
think MS just slapped an RC2 badge on it so they can say "The people asked
for an RC2 build so we gave them one" MS has said that 5744 did not go
through the same testing that RC1 went through. RC2 is closer to RTM,
shouldn't it be held to a higher standard than RC1?

  6. So why do you think it is an interim build? Please note in the data I
copied from Connect (TechBeta) that 5744 is called a Milestone (RC2) and not
    an Interim build.

Title Windows Vista (v5744-16384) for X86
    Release Date 10/8/2006
    Size 2,542.88 MB
    Version 5744-16384
    Category Build
    Milestone RC2

Look at the version in Winver. It is an edw interim build from the RTM
Branch. It doesn't say anywhere that it is RC2. Look at Properties in any
file, no RC2 to be found.
