I want to compress a wav file using sound recorder but the drop down box
does not contain the mpeg choice. Looking around i find the codec is there
(Fraunhofer) but looking at the properties in device manager/audio codecs
shows it as mpeg layer 3 Audio codec (decode only). I have uninstalled Media
player and downloaded and reinstalled (v9 on XP Pro) but it is till the same
ie decode only. how can i overcome this please?
    TIA

  2. WMP/DirectX only install the decoder. You need the
WindowsMediaEncoder to get the encoder part and you will
still only get a limited version (24KHz/56Kbps max).
