Why would I have access?

Once upon a time I had access to another server in the building \\oldserver
running windows 2000 server. (My desktop is XP Pro)

I have installed my own server (Windows 2003) in my own forest and have not
configured any trusts - the administrator of the other machine does not have
any information regarding the configuration of my machine and so could not
    have created any trusts either.

My XP Pro machine authenticates to my server \\newserver, but I still have
full access to my directory on the old server. My username is the same in
both domains, but shouldn't I be denied access on the old server? I checked
the permissions groups on the old machine and oldserver\username is set for
full access, but newserver\username doesn't appear anywhere.

(My XP Pro machine has recently been formatted so there isn't anything

  2. If your user id and password are identical between the 2 forests you will
have access based on what security groups you belong to within each forest.
