    Hi,
I have 4 Hotmail accounts and in WLM WIN7 they all open fine. In WIN 8 two
of them refuse to open with an error message re. 0x8004884b.
Tried Google but it didn't seem to make sense hence I'm picking your brains
    again.

All the error message said was "0x800488B"? There was nothing else in
    that error message, like:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail (<name>) account.

    Subject '<someSubject>'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x8004884B

Or did the error message include something like "sorry, could not log
    you in"?

If so, have you logged into your Hotmail accounts using their webmail
interface (or go to https://account.live.com/proofs/Manage?mkt=en-us) to
ensure there isn't some intervening CAPTCHA security page to prove a
human is still using that account and confirm the host you are using
    (and remember to click Save)?

It's also possibly you only think you have the same settings in the
accounts you defined within WLM on your other host. Your eye might be
missing something subtle, like one wrong character in a long string,
seeing "O" (oh) as "0" (zero), having leading or trailing whitespace.
Your eye often will see what it expects to see. Try exporting the
settings in WLM on your working host and then import them into the same
account in WLM on your other host.

/(skip the part on importing messages if you're just trying to sync
account settings between multiple instances of WLM)/

As in Outlook Express, you export an account to create an .iaf file and
then you import that .iaf file into another instance of the program.

    housetrainedNot enough info.
    Hotmail accounts using ??
    - POP3
    - DeltaSync (Http)

    Balance of error message ?

    Windows 8 ??
    - RTM Eval version
    - RTM version (MSDN/TechNet)

Is Win7 (on another pc) continuing to poll for messages at the same time while attempting to acccess on Win8.
    - only one connection to the account on the server with the same username/pw is permitted at a point in time
    - if WLM on Win7 and Win8 are both open at the same time ensure they are not set to automatically poll every few seconds. **Note**
Even when not set to automatically check ever 'x' seconds WLM will continue to poll all email accounts when the account is
configured to be included in a Send/Receive.
    - likewise other devices (phone, iPad, etc.) designed to autopoll can interfere with other mail clients when simultaneously
connecting to the same account on the Hotmail server (and vice versa)

Thanks again, I opened the accounts at hotmail.com and sent myself an email
and they both suddenly worked again. Back on win7 now until the final win8
comes on sale. seem to have got win 8 to "obey" me now. Thanks again.
