It turns out that I have also experienced a problem
with the 819639 update to Win Media Player 9. I'm running
Windows 2000 and after I installed 819639 my system had
several problems including the inability to run the media
player. In my case I was able to revert to a previous
system setting by using Configsafe and then I was able to
uninstall Win Media Player 9 using the "Add/remove
Programs" utility in Control Panel. Doing this reverted
me back to Media Player 6.4, but I have since upgraded to
Media Player 7.1. I refuse to install Media Player 9
again until Microsoft fixes the security update (819639).
    Hope this information is helpful.
