Win Mobile 6.1 MP4 not recognised by XP Win Media Player 11

  1. I took some videos on my Verizon HTC xv6800 with Windows Mobile 6.1. I
sync'd up to my XP Pro SP3 with Win Media Player 11, and the MP4 videos are
    not playable on my computer.
Both devices are kept up-to-date with Microsoft updates.
How do I achieve the promised compatibility between my smart phone and
    computer?

  2. The compatibility is achieved using plugins called DirectShow filters.
    FFDShow http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDshow.htm is one such
filter than will get you broadly trouble-free MPEG4 video playback in
    WMP

How have you determined the videos are MPEG4 instead of a-n-other
    format ?

  3. I downloaded and installed FFDshow as Neil suggests, but it did not help.
Windows Media Player terminates and send debug info to Microsoft.

I determined that Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 makes MPEG4 videos because
    the filename extension is *.mp4.
