Installed SP2 candidate on my XP system. Install went smoothly. Love all the new popup blockers and other tools.

Went to tools update and ran manual update for critical updates. Got message "Windows update has encountered and eror and cannot display the requested page. Try refreshing the page, cleaning your Internat Explorer Temp files and restart browser." ." error 0xDDD0004.

I cleaned out the cookies and the temp files. Tried again and got the same message.

From another post on this site ran:

    REGVSR32 SOFTPUB.DLL
    REGSVR32 INITPKI.DLL
    REGSVR32 MSSIP32.DLL

    All were successful.

checked off HTTP 1.1 through Proxey

    still no connection.

Tried manual update on another computer that does not have SP2 and it worked perfectly.

    Any ideas?

    Hello,

When you go to the Windows Update site do you notice at the top of the page
right below the Address Bar a yellow banner notifying you to accept an
ActiveX control? You must accept and download the ActiveX control in order
    to proceed.

    PLEASE NOTE- IMPORTANT!!
a.. The pre-release versions of Windows Update are for testing purposes
    only!
b.. Please do not depend on the pre-release versions of Windows Update to
keep your computer secure and up to date. If you are not a Windows XP SP2
Beta program participant, you can keep your computer secure and up to date
by visiting the http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com site. If you are part
of the Windows XP SP2 Beta program, please take extra care regarding
computer security as you will not be able to go back to the Windows Update
    V4 site.

    Thanks,

Thanks. Mysteriously, the problem resolved itself. When I logged on the next day all was working well. I didn't do anything.

Perhpas the SP2 just took the night off to think about it.

    Thanks for your help.
