Win2003 R2 : usable with Win2003 Web Edition + SP1 ?

Discussion in 'Windows Server' started by bestofcomputer, Jan 31, 2006.

  1. I have downloaded the trial version of Windows 2003 R2.
But it is composed of 2 cd-roms :
    - cd1 : win2003 enterprise edition + SP1.
    - cd2 : admin tools + addons for R2.
    So, my question is :
Do I have to install both cds to use R2 version ?
Or could I install only the CD2 (R2 addons), upgrading my actual
    installation :
    - Win2003 Web Edition + SP1 ?
Is R2 update compliant with Web Edition ?
Because I want to keep my web server and my Intranet.
    Thanks for clearing this point.

For the trial, yes, please install it on a test machines. The R2 product key
will not let you use on a production server.
R2 doesn't work with W2003 Web edition. It's either Standard or Enterprise.
    Nope. :(
    Get a W2k3 Standard box then. :(
