    Hi,

I recently started encountering a '0x8024400A' error after trying to install
updates from the Microsoft Update site. I am unsure how to correct
    this problem.

I had carried out update and sucessfully installed 2 Windows Genuine
Advantage Notification (KB905474) and Windows XP Update for Windows XP
    (KB913670) on
    4/7/2006.

    Please assist me...

  2. Try re-registering the MSXML3.DLL

Click Start, select Run and type:
    regsvr32 msxml3.dll
    Select Okay.

    Try WU again
    You may have to reboot

No guarantees, it works for some with this error but not everyone.

  4. As I said, it works for some -

You may need to re-registered some more files:

    1. Click Start.
    2. Choose Run.
    3. In the Run box, type (pressing okay after each one) :-

    net stop wuauserv

    Repeat for the following:
    regsvr32 wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 wups.dll
    regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
    regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
    regsvr32 wucltui.dll
    regsvr32 wuweb.dll
    regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
    regsvr32 qmgr.dll
    regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
    regsvr32 jscript.dll

    net start wuauserv

  7. Well at least we are progressing, see these links for your new "error"

You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an
update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server
    Update Services
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336/en-us

When searching for available updates on the Update site, you see the
    0x80070002 or 0x80070003 error
    http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/showarticle.aspx?articleid=17&ln=en&IsMu=False
