Cant get Window Update KB913446 to download successfully. What am I doing
wrong here? Further more, I cant or dont know how to get some sort of a clue
as to why it is failing.

I agree with you Steve. I've got the same problem and hope the Gates Gang
can "rebake" this half baked update!

  4. Hi SteveP,

If it's failing with error code 0x80242006, that seems to be a common
failure for a lot of people, myself included.
    D/load the update from here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS06-007.mspx
Under "Affected Software", choose the download for the appropriate operating
system. Once d/loaded, install the update.

I think the file is corrcupted. Windowsupdate.log says:

    FATAL: UH: 0x80070002: LookupFileHash failed
    2006-02-14 19:31:19 1124 b90 Handler FATAL: UH: 0x80242006:

    FATAL: UH: 0x80242006: GetRequiredFilesForSandboxState failed
    FATAL: DM:CAgentDownloadManager::GenerateAllDownloadRequests:
    GenerateDownloadRequest failed with 0x80242006.
Error 0x80242006 occurred while downloading update; notifying dependent calls.

I got the same thing on two different machines and I've tried each several
    times.

I'll wait until tomorrow to try again.

I cannot get windows update to work at all. I get a message telling me that
some software necessary for downloading is no longer installed/registered.
THey do give you the option to re-install the offending software, but when I
try again, I get the same message. It is as if installed software is deleted
    immediately...

This advice really worked for me after several attempts to download it from
the update site. I did a Belarc check - the update was there and my machine
    has not crashed. Thanks.

  11. You're very welcome! :)

Of course, as some have pointed out, this does not solve the problem of why
this particular update is failing when trying to install it via Windows
Update. I just wanted to provide persons with a viable workaround until the
    problem is sorted out.

I received the same error when attempting to pull the update from my
WSUS server. When I pull that update from the Microsoft Updates web
site, I don't have any issues. I have a feeling there is an invalid
hash on the WSUS version that is being downloaded that failes download
hash check that is perfomed by the client.

A chart on http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive/wuc.htm with the error
descriptions seems to point to this for 0x80242006.

SUS_E_UH_INVALIDMETADATA - The caller passed an update with invalid
    metadata to the handler

I was poking around for a way to force WSUS to repull a file, but it
looks like the only way is for MS to revision it.

MS has fixed it. Look at the WSUS newsgroup for a recent posting from
    the WSUS PM.
