Windows 2003 Licensing/Activation TimeFrame?

Discussion in 'Windows Server' started by Linda Brockelman, Jun 17, 2005.

  1. We're considering a new Windows 2003 server. I tech buddy told me Windows
2003 had to be relicensed or reactivated every 2 or 3 years. Is this correct?
Can anyone explain what exactly that will entail?

  2. I think what he was trying to say that when you upgrade to new version of
server OS you need to purchase new CALs (Client Access Licenses). Depends on
company's strategy in terms of upgrading, it means extra expense every
    couple of years.

For activation, unless you modify/upgrade/replace your hardware and/or
reinstall OS frequently, you need to do it only once.
