Given the correct settings in GPO, will a windows XP/2000 machine
automatically reboot IF no one is logged into the machine after the updates
    are installed?

  2. Could you give your settings?

If your settings are such that you are downloading/installing updates
without user intervention, then yes it will reboot. For example, if you
have AUOptions = 4 (download and install updates), and simply leave the
computer logged off, it will continue to update until complete. How long it
will take will largely depend on the detection frequency.
