thread with the information we'd need to be able to assist you properly.

See this KB article which has many suggestions & tips:

How to troubleshoot definition update issues for Windows Defender:

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender support
and comments. This is not one of them. See

Not sure how or why but the above REGSVR32 batch file fixed my issue
    completely. Thanks again Boraxus!

OR, just download, ***save***, and then run the Fixit on this page:

How do I reset Windows Update components?

The system needs to be connected to the internet when run as it will
download the updating software components required to update a Windows OS.
Running it in it's Aggressive mode will do all the steps listed in the MSKB.
The Fixit applies to *both* x86 (32bit) and x64 system architecture.

The most likely reason is that Boraxus posted that fix *FIVE* years ago.

Instead of replying to *FIVE* year old threads, why not start a new one
with pertinent information about YOUR system ... such as Windows
    edition, Service Pack level, etc.

Error message when you try to install updates by using the Windows
Update or Microsoft Update Web site: "0x80004002"
