Windows Defender error 0x800106ba with Vista home Premium

Discussion in 'Windows Update' started by acsc, Mar 10, 2009.

  1. Hi. All

I just found a solution for:

"Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba . a problem caused Windows
Defender Service to stop. To start the service restart the computer or search
help and Support on how to start a service manually. "

    and

"Windows could not start the Windows Defender service on Local Computer. Error 0x80092003: an error occurred while reading or writing to a file."

    overwrite

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\

    with

    Hello acsc.
    Hello acsc.

The only thing I can think of is to try running the command "sfc /scannow"
in a elevated command prompt. It may fix it for you. You can look here for
    details on it.

I tried this hoping I could get to Windows Defender to turn it off.
I tried this hoping I could get to Windows Defender to turn it off. Still get
error 0x800106ba after your suggestion. There is supposed to be a way to start
Defender manually, but I cannot find it. Would you know how to do that?
    Thanks!

MSE causes Defender to stop. This is an unsolved issue.

    2. MSE includes Defender technology in its antispyware component so it
disables Defender upon installation. This is not "an unsovled issue," it is
    default behavior.

For the benefit of other readers: unsolicited "solutions" should be treated with
extreme caution, particularly if they propose that you install something
    downloaded from a random website.
