A redo of an earlier post with some corrections and more info

Windows Essentials 2012 (See Notes at bottom regarding naming and other imo useful tidbits)
    Build version 16.4.3503.0728

    Full version installer
    http://g.live.com/1rewlive5-all/en/wlsetup-all.exe

    Web Version Installer
    http://g.live.com/1rewlive5-web/en/wlsetup-web.exe

Updates are for Photo Gallery and Movie Maker (not Mail or Messenger, Writer, etc)
For specifics on Photo Gallery and Movie Maker update see

    Notes:
Windows Live Essentials 2011 (WLE11), the previous version, includes Live Mesh as an installable application. It also includes 2011
versions of Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Writer, Windows Live Photo Gallery, Windows Live Movie Maker,
Family Safety, Messenger Companion, and if Outlook is present the Outlook Hotmail Connector.

    On the other hand…
Windows Essentials 2012 (WE12) does not include Live Mesh - SkyDrive Desktop app is included as a replacement for Live Mesh.
WLE12 includes the following 2012 versions of Windows Photo Gallery 2012/Windows Movie Maker 2012 and 2012 versions of Windows Live
Mail, Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Writer, Family Safety. (note the different nomenclature, Photo Gallery and Movie Maker
no longer retain the ‘Live’ brand name)

No mixing and matching of the WLE2011 or WE2012 suite of products or individual applications is possible (i.e. one or the other)

    Notes for WE12:
    1. ****It will remove Live Mesh****
    2. It will remove Messenger Companion
    3. Photo Gallery and Movie Maker are installed together (no option to install separately)
    4. Movie Maker 12 requires Direct X 10 (and in order to open may require the latest video card drivers from the card
    manufacturer or the OEM site)

In general, Microsoft's position on use at this time for XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8
    1. XP - use WLE 2009
    2. Vista - use WLE 2011
    3. Windows 7 - use WE 2012 (if Movie Maker is desired ensure your graphics card supports Direct X 10, if not use WLE 2011)
    4. Windows 8 - same as Win7 but understand that MSFT's focus is no longer on the 2012 included 'Live' branded programs since Win8
includes a Mail, People, Calendar, Messaging app - i.e. don't expect any improvements, fixes, patches, etc.. on the 2012 Live Mail,
    Live Messenger, Live Writer applications).

    Hi Winston! :)

First of all, thank you for providing all of this info!
It would be almost impossible for me to find and/or figure out without your
    help.

That being said, I'm still a little confused.
    I'm running Win7x64 with WLM Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3555.0308).
Do I need to 'upgrade' to "WE 2012" or do I even want to?

If I DO go with WE 2012, will I retain all of my saved mail, folders,
message rules, etc. from WLM 2011?

I usually feel that "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" and don't want to
upgrade just because there's a newer version of something, but I'm not clear
on exactly what the benefits would be with WE 2012 over WLE 2011. Sorry if
that didn't come out right, but I think you know what I mean. <g> Thanks in
advance for shedding any more light!

No feature changes in WE 12's included 16.x version of Windows Live Mail 2012.
Upgrading to the 16.x version from your 15.x Windows Live Mail version is a no change scenario program wise (everything else stays
    the same, the version changes)

If you use Photo Gallery and Movie Maker from the WLE 2011, improvements and features are present.
    See this for details.

    or

Note: Movie Maker 12 (part of WE 2012) unlike the 2011 version now requires Direct X 10 or later and may also require the latest
drivers for your video card to function/open.
