Windows (Live) Essentials - latest update

Discussion in 'Windows Live Mail' started by Roland Schweiger, Feb 19, 2014.

  1. Just was informed about the update of windows essentials and installed
    it.

Obviously the desktop SkyDrive APP was updated and changed not only
its name but also the name of the folders to OneDrive.

Windows Live Mails version was changed to 16.4.3522.0110

At first glance i do not notice any changes.

Does anyone know if something did change?

    greetings

Doesn't the Photo Mail feature in WLM use SkyDrive? As I recall,
recipients of a photo e-mail see thumbnails of the photos. These are
much smaller than the full-sized picture. When the recipient clicks on
the thumbnails, they show they want to expend the bandwidth and time to
get the full pic which downloads from SkyDrive.

Because of the name change, anything that mentions "SkyDrive" in WLM and
any other Microsoft product will have to get changed to "OneDrive".
It's a trivial and superfluous change to users but required by Microsoft
to comply with losing the court case with Sky Communications. They must
not stop only using SkyDrive for the name of their service in the web
pages but also must stop using that name in their products.

Yes, WLM's Photo email feature uses SkyDrive, as well as
PhotoGallery-MovieMaker. Live Writer continues to be able to include
hyperlinks to shared 'OneDrive (fka SkyDrive)' files/slide shows...and
for mainland China - Messenger can still share SkyDrive content but not
entirely as it had in the past.

At this stage...the re-branding to OneDrive appears to be the primary
controlling factor for the Windows Essentials 2012-QFE3 update...since
its now 2014, the 2012-QFE3 suite and update should still be interpreted
    as 'legacy-ware'.
