Windows Live Messenger has stopped working

Discussion in 'Windows Live Messenger' started by justkeepswimming, Feb 6, 2007.

  1. Hey,

I just bought a new laptop yesterday and I have Windows Live OneCare
installed and Windows Vista and everything works well except for Windows Live
    Messenger.
Everytime I log into my account, it signs in, but within 5 secs it comes up
with "Windows Live Messenger has stopped working: A problem caused the
program to stop working corrently. Windows will close the program and notify
you if a solution is available"
And it never finds a solution, I just click "Close program" and it exits
    Messenger.
At first I thought it was Norton AntiVirus, as I had a two month
subscription to that preloaded into the computer, as Norton had prevented
access to Messenger on the home computer, but I uninstalled Norton and
installed OneCare and it is still doing it.
Does anybody have any idea what is going on with my computer and if I can
    fix it?

    Thanks

  2. Never mind, it was the Windows Live Today that was stuffing it up!

Well, Apparently the problem is with the latest version of Messenger and not
older versions. If you download Live Messenger 8.0 it works find no DEP error
or any kind of error. You can download Live Messenger 8.0 from:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...8f-8574-4562-af6d-48dd23026b9d&DisplayLang=en

Although it is not the latest version but its better then not using one at
all. Hopefully Microsoft will find a solution soon.

Hello, I am still having a similar situation happening with my brand new
Vista system. Upon opening certain, not ALL emails, i get the message that
"Windows Live Desktop Has stopped working" and then the thing shuts down.
VERY Frustrating. I have recently reinstalled windows and for a while, it i
did NOT do this, but now, after installing Windows ONE care, now it closes
the application down. Does anyone have any solutions for this terrible
    problem???? Thanks!
