windows media center plays burned dvds, windows media center does

i use cucosoft to convert and burn avi files to dvd, and they play very well
on stand alone dvd players and on the window media center player on this
notebook. but when i try to play it on the windows media center player (on
this same notebook), all i get is a thin "sliver" of a picture horizontally
across the screen, with no sound. how can the drive play the dvd in the
windows media center, but not on the windows media player?

the WMP does play all other dvds (commercial), but for whatever reason i
have no success with those dvds i burn with the cucosoft software.

any ideas what to do or why this occurs? i like the windows media player
because it boots up faster than the media center, and also u can fast forward
the dvd in the media center by dragging the progress "thing" to the point u
    wish.

    thanks for any help.....appreciate it.
