Hi there - thanks in advance for reading this!

I've been having an issue with windows media player for over a year. It
simply won't play anything. Running Windows XP. I've tried everything I could
think of to fix it, including uninstalling it (via the registry) and

Constantly getting Error C00D1197 - suggesting I'm not connected to internet
which I am. Proxy settings are all set to Autodetect. All protocol options
    are checked.

What's odd to me is when I look in windows media - options - devices -
speakers, it will not let me select anything from the drop-down box. If that
is causing the problem, how the heck do I fix it?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as I've been trying to fix this on my
own for a year and have failed miserably!

Some more information that I should have mentioned:

Running WMA version 10. Files do NOT play on hard drive, or on internet. I
have tried every file type, including AVI, MPG, MP3, WMA, etc. Nothing works.
File does not play in mplayer2.
