"Windows Media Player XP" vs "Windows Media Player 9 for XP"... questions

Recently I installed MS Flight Sim 2004, and it overwrote
the Windows Media Player XP that came on my system with
what turned out to be Windows Media Player 9. The two are
different apparently, besides the appearance difference
they're called these two different names in the Help-
but it's nowhere to be found for downloading. On the MS
site there's "Windows Media Player 9 for XP", but it
turns out to be the same as what Flight Sim installed for
me, apparently (which is WMP 9).

The Win XP installation cd is no help, it's
incomprehensible and probably has to install the entire
OS and not just parts. Windows Add/Remove components is
no help either, it doesn't show WMP.

Has anyone run across this? Seems minor, but it's a
    nuisance -- thanks...

WMP8 can't be installed as a stand-alone install, only as part of XP. Since
WMP9 is an update for this (and contains security benefits over WMP8),
    reinstalling XP won't touch WMP9.
At this point you would need to use System Restore if you wanted to roll
    back to WMP8.

Thanks, actually I had no idea the WMP that came with Win
XP was WMP 8, I had mistakenly thought WMP XP was a
special version of WMP 9. I'll probably stay with the WMP
9, then, in that case. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the link to your page as well, it's very
helpful, it's earned a "bookmark" in my favorites. :)
