I have a rotation of 5 removable hard disk drives that are used for backups.
Using the Windows Server Backup Utility that's native to Windows server 2008,
is there a way to configure the backup to erase or replace any existing
backup on that disk? Currently, I'm having to manually delete the old backup
file to make room for the new one. But I would prefer that the backup utility
    replaced the existing file automatically.

  2. I'm not familiar with the Windows 2008 backup tool but if it has no inbuilt
facility to enforce a rotation scheme of five files then it would be
straightforward to embed the backup command in a batch file and add a few
lines of code so that old files beyond the count of 4 are deleted before the
    backup process starts.
