I have tried to post this question to two other groups - but was advised to
use this group instead - so her is a copy/paste of the question:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Situation:
Want to test installation of WinSMB 2008 on Virtual PC 2007.

HW is HP HDX18-1100OE (x64 CPU) running Vista Ultimate x64

Installed Virtual PC 2007 for x64

    Using ISO file with OS.

When Booting it starts routine OK - but it comes with Error saying that it
is not a x64 environment - so Win 2008 installation stops.

This Error should not happen in my x64 enronment ?

Is it not possible to setup SMB 2008 on Virtual PC ?
(Selected other OS for Virtual Disk).

    Hi Flemming,

+ Can you share the Exact error message which you are getting with error code?

    Thanks

Thanks for reply - and naturally I should have put a copy of the screen -
Unfortunately it is not possible to put a screendump in - so i have written
    most of it in stead:

    Windows Boot Manger

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
    cause. to fix this problem:

    1. insert your windows installation disc ..
    2. Choose your language...
    3. Click repari your computer ...

    If you...

    File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe

    Status: 0xc000035a

Info: Attempting to load a 64-bit application, howewer this CPU is NOT
    compatible with 64-bit mode.

    Hi Flemming,

    Thanks for the information.

I could found out that SBS 2008 is only available for 64-bit platforms, you
MUST install SBS 2008 on a
    64-bit capable CPU.

+ Could you tell us the steps you followed to install Virtual PC and SMB
    server?

I would also like to mention that this is not the correct forum. I am going
beyond the forum limit and helping you. If you find this is not helpful .
Please post your queries in correct forum like server 2008 technet forum.

Forums: yeah it's sometime difficult to find the right forum to use - so I
choose this to my best knowledge - is tit possible to transferre this thread
    to another forum ?

    The HP HDX18-1100OE should be a 64 CPU (intel Core(TM)2 Duo - P8600) On
intel.com specs says "intel 64 Architecure" - therefore I was surprised to
see this message when installing SMB 2008.

PC is allso running Vista Ultimate 64 bit and Virtual PC is allso 64 bit
    version.

    Steps:
    Prepared New Virtual Disk
    1,5 GByte RAM
ISO File downloaded from MSDN with SMB 2008
ISO File set as Boot drive - then Boot Virtual PC

It actually reads from the ISO disk - looks normal - until Error Message.

I have tried setting Virtual PC OS type to bothe "Other" and to "Vista" with
    same result.

Since the Error Message does not seem to response "real live" - I don't have
any ideas on how to come further on installation.

So Please - give me a hint ?

    Hi Flemming,

I am sorry to say that here is not the correct forum to discuss this issue
    either.

As this issue is mainly related to Virtual PC 2007, I suggest discussing it
in our Virtual PC newsgroup. They are the best resource to troubleshoot it.

I hope your issue can be resolved soon.

Virtual PC doesn't support 64-bit guests. You'll have to use another
    VM solution.

Thanks for quick reply - even it was a bit negative response - but the answer
    was real straight.

I will just use a real server (hardware) in stead.

VirtualBox can do the job for you - and it's free.
However, it's more complicated to configure thoroughly.
