I have to install one of those service packs that did not finish installing
last week. I am guessing that it did not finish installing because my
antivirus needed to be off. How do I turn it off ( AVG free version)- and
how can I pick up the installation where it left off. When I go to the
website and view installation history, the service pack status says 'in
progress'. then is says read more. but I dont know even what the "Q"number
is. If I find which one it was, can i pick to install that one manually???
    please help.

Are you referring to Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1? The "In progress"
status on the Windows Update history is by design. Typically all service
packs and exclusive updates require a restart to complete the installation.
After restart Windows Update is longer active therefore unable to verify
    installation.

Check if Internet Explorer SP1 is installed:

    Open Internet Explorer
Select Help > About Internet Explorer
Under Update version SP1 should be listed.
