I also get this error message. It started after I upgraded to Microsoft
Update. Anyone know how to uninstall Microsoft Update? Would like to see if
    I still receive error.

  3. Me Too! Just used Updater to update the Updater and it installed the
"WINDOWS GENUINE ADVANTAGE VALIDATION TOOL". Since this update was
installed, subsequent updates fail. Are they trying to tell me that my site
license is pirated or something!?! W.T.F.? We are 100% LEGAL HERE! MS
needs to get their collective $#!+ together and find a way to catch pirates
    WITHOUT interfering with legitimate users!

Now, I'll admit that I've installed Windows XP on this machine numerous
times using the same product key - but you gotta do that sometimes to
    reproduce a problem when troubleshooting.

C'mon MS - how do we fix this now?

Think I got it to work.

In Internet Explorer, I change the setting as follows:

Internet options - Connection - uncheck use a proxy server for your LAN
    option & check Auto config.
    Internet Options - Advanced - HTTP1.1 settings - check use HTTP1.1 through
    proxy connection
Internet options - Advanced - Microsoft VM - JIT compiler for virtual
    machine enable.

Then I was able to download all cab file in
    Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Websetup folder

Internet Explorer auto detect my proxy and I was able to run the windows
    update.

Note: When I ran the update for the second time, I got the same error again
    but by
refeshing the Windows update page (CTRL-R), the update worked.

    Hope this helps....
