Hi all. Hope someone can help me with this error message. my laptop recently got affected by some trojan and I have removed it with a few cleaners. 1.Symantec Anti-Virus 2.Windows Defender 3.Live One Care 4.A-Squared Free 5.CCleaner 6.Spybot, search&destroy. These Programs comes together with the laptop. I never had to do all the full scan but windows explorer couldn't act properly (windows explorer had to shut down whenever I open My Computer directory). After removal, everything is solved and all programs are working. however, Windows Update couldnt start because of this error code 80070422. My Laptop details: Windows Vista Entreprise, Service pack 1, Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor TK-53 1.7 GHz, RAM: 2GB, System Type: 32-bit Operating System. these are the solutions i have tried: 1. Running Full scan again. No viruses/malware/trojan or whatever thingy was found. Windows is back to normal. After re-boot, windows update works again, but only for a while, after that security center alert me that windows update is turned off. (No windows update = no update for defender OMG ><). 2. Check if BITS is enabled. using command prompt. yes it is. 3. - Check if Windows Module Installer is on Manual (yes it is) - Windows Module Installer is running. - Windows Update (Using Adminstartive Tools > Services > windows Update (properties). I realised that it is Disabled so i click on Automatic, and it switch back to Disabled again. I have done this repeatedly and when the status is on Automatic (which it should be), Its service status wrote : Stopped. ok. I click on start, a pop up shows up : "Error 1058: The Service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." - There were several successful attempts and windows manage to get the lastest update. However, the windows update service fails most of the times. Its basically all the Trustable solution here I can find on the web. There a few websites asking me to dowload this anti-malware or that anti-whatever or whatever... I don't think I should really trust those things... I hope someone with technical experience can help me out with this. Thank you so much! Thank you Thank you!!
