I've got problems with the microsoft update because appearing the usual
yellow shield icon below the rearside bar indicating
which windows xp updates KB981793 has not been carried out.

What am I supposed to do now?

I've tried many times to trim it also using methods used by several users in
forums but no results about that.

Keep waiting for helpful suggestions, thanks.

If it exists, have you checked the KB981793.log which is located in
    WINDOWS ?

Has any other Time Zone update failed to properly install prior to this
    one ?

IF the KB981793.log exists, please copy and paste it into your reply.

it's weird because i got 2 log files existing.. one is located in "windows"
folder and another one in "documents and settings" but I guess it is the
    same.

however the one you told me is this one:

Seeing that the update uses Windows Installer, yes, the 2 logs files
should be duplicates. One is written to %systemroot% (WINDOWS) and one
    to Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Temp\.

    From - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981793
Is the update showing as installed in Control Panel > Add/Remove
Programs ? Make sure that the "Show updates" box is checked at the top
to see all of the updates installed.

If it is, then the next time the update is offered, UNcheck the box next
to it, click OK, then put a mark in the next window that opens next to "
Do not show this update again. "
    Click Apply, then OK.

If the update is *not* showing in Add/Remove Programs, here's a
    workaround from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883824

" This issue has been found to occur when you install previously
released time zone updates for Microsoft Windows operating systems. To
resolve this issue in this scenario, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
Copy and then paste (or type) the following command in the Open box, and
    then press ENTER:
    regedit
Select My Computer (the root node) in the navigation pane on the left
side, click Export under the File menu, and then select All under Export
    range.
Select Desktop in the Save in box, type backup in the File Name box, and
    then click Save.

Note The backup file is located on the Desktop and is named
"backup.req." You can restore the registry by double-clicking the
backup.req file. After you complete the troubleshooting, and the issue
is resolved, you can delete this file.
In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey:

    HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones

In the details panel on the right side, locate and double-click the
    following registry entry:
    TZVersion

Type 0 in the Value Data field, and then click OK.
    Exit Registry Editor.
    Install update KB981783 again. "

I changed the above KB from what was originally posted in the KB article
    from KB931836 to KB981783.

thank u very much friend! I solved the problem by checking and simply
removing the KB981793 already installed in from the add/remove programs as u
told me to verify there and then i let windows update adding it as a new
installment.. so it made the updating by itself. cuz now it ain't begging me
for new prior updates. Now I'll be sure it won't ask for me that yet..
