I trying to run Update. When I go to the update page it
says that, " The Windows Update site has been updated. To
update your version of the softwareand begin using Windows
    Update, click Update Now."
I click the button and I get a security warning that
says, " Do you want to install and
    run "http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/CAB/x86/ansi/iuc
tl.CAB?37878. different numbers each time"? When I hit the
button I just get sent back to the same "update software
    Required" page.

I am running 98se and I have the latest version of
explorer when I look in my Windows Update.log file The
only error that I find continuosly is, 00:16:52
Error IUENGINE See iuhist.xml for details:
Download finished (Error 0x8007000B: An attempt was made
to load a program with an
    incorrect format.)

Any help would be great, thanx

    Cryst:

I have Windows 98se as well and was having the same
problem. I contacted Microsoft and they sent me
instructions on what to do which resolved my problem. I
posted these instructions on Sept, 13, titled "Solution
for Windows 98 Update problem" Go back and take a look, it
    should help you.

Try disabling your anti-virus, and firewall, before trying to download
the updated software required. I had the same problem. It worked for me,
    I hope this helps.
Messed up my pc the first time I downloaded it,( the updated software
),and i had to do a Go Back. Then I disabled Nortons, and Zone Labs
until the up-graded software was installed. Now it takes me right to the
up-date site, and I can scan for updates, and everything downloaded and
    installed with no problems.
