    Hi,

I have a laptop which used to be part of an office network, where
windows updates came from the sys admin. Now it is mine, and therefore
they cleaned it up, but still I cannot choose how to manage Windows
    Updates.

    How can I do?

    Thanks
    Stefano

  2. Stefano,

See if this MSKB article applies :

You receive one or more error messages when the system administrator
disables Windows Update or Microsoft Update

If not, post back with the version of XP installed, Home or Pro.

Check the Service Manager for "Automatic Update" service
Click Start, select Run and type: Services.msc
    Press Enter
    Locate the - "Automatic Update"
Make sure the service is not disabled and started.

    If necessary:-

    Go to START, Select RUN
    Type: regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
    Press Ok
