Windows XP Guest

    During installation of Windows XP Professional I get the following error:

    Error:
    INstallation Failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message : The request could not be
    performed because of an I/O device error.

    It sounds like there's an error reading the CD-ROM. Did
    you try more than once? Did it error at exactly the same
    point?

    Thanks Scott

    Yes I've tried a number of times and have even re created the VM. It has the
    error in the same place each time. I'm assuming that the VM CD drive wil map
    the physical to a VM drive D ?

    VPC connects the virtual CD drive to the physical drive
    you specify (or ISO image). It doesn't actually have
    anything to do with drive letters/identifiers--those are
    OS references.

    Since it always breaks at the same spot, I suspect the
    source media. Try different media if you have it, or try
    with a different physical cd drive. You can also try
    installing to a different physical PC to see if another
    machine can read the CD.
