    I have Windows 2000 Pro SP3.

I can see critical updates if i goto windowsupdate.microsoft.com just
    fine.

However I have set control panel/automatic updates to Notify only but
can not get it to work. I do not get notified. I am logged in as
administrator and there are no logging of info in c:\winnt\windows
update.log. There is logging of info if i goto the website manually
    however.

I have tried the following to force an update cycle but all i get is
the both the time registry keys reappearing with a new time.

Try to force a detection cycle,
    1) net stop wuauserv

    2) Delete
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto
    Update\LastWaitTime (if it exists)

    3) Delete
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto
    Update\DetectionStartTime (if it exists)

    4) Make sure that
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto
    Update\AUState=0x2

    5) net start wuauserv

Any thoughts? How can i get notification to work?

    Thanks

  2. Try the following:

For Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003:
    download our controls from
    http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/cab/x86/unicode/iuctl.cab and save
them to your desktop. Extract the .cab file following the steps below:

    1. Go to the desktop and right click the iuctl.cab file.
    2. Click "Open".
    3. Select all the files listed.
    4. Right click on them and click "Extract."
    5. Point to a known location (like the desktop) and click "OK."
    6. Go to the location you selected and right click the iuctl.inf file.
    5. Click "Install."
