I'm having the same problem. When one server is down, files are still
accessible on same path but the pc slows down and pauses for long periods. I
haven't been able to fine the reason. I disable AV on the pc. Shutdown
computer browser service. Checked for processor hogs in task manager. Tried
to shutdown applications that could be causing the problem ie. lotus notes.

  2. Hi, Meme

You said "I'm having the same problem". Do you have the original problem
description? I couldn't understand exactly by your comments which post you
    refer to.

    Thanks!

I would hazard a guess that he is getting the same problem that is so often
reported. When there are more than one DFS root servers the client (XP) does not
fail over to the other DFS server is any reasonable timeframe. Additionally it
locks up the client in much the same way as happens when a DHCP client is
attempting to renew the IP address and the DHCP server is not online.
