WLM 8.1 - Now I'm Really confused!

I have MSN dialup and just installed WLM 8.1 because I was told I needed to.
There is an option under "file transfer" for installing the Windows Live
Safety Scanner. This is really confusing! I browsed through some of the Help
topics, and saw that the Live Scanner is the only one that can scan certain
shared files. Is this the online version of the Safety Scanner or is it
Windows Live One Care? I don't understand why I would need that scanner if I
already have McAfee. Wouldn't they conflict? And to futher show my complete
stupidity: Where are these "Sharing Folders"? Are they on my PC or on the
Internet? I read that they must "sync" with the person's PC that they are
shared with. Heck! I can't even get the MSN software to always sycn correctly
for my emails and favorites. This stuff all seems to much for dialup. Please
explain in terms for an MSN newbie and compleat idiot.

  2. Greetings,

You do not need the Safety Scanner, you can setup whatever virus scanner you wish in that
dialog and you'll have access to send/receive whatever files you like.

Sharing Folders are made on your own PC and then made on the person's PC when it syncs.

I personally don't even use the Sharing Folders feature -- the old file transfer is still
there and works fine. I suggest you continue using it as before.

Thanks for the reply. I know that I don't *need* the Live Safety Scanner, but
what would happen if I clicked to install it? Would I get the feared "you
have 2 antivirus programs on your PC" meltdown? This would all make more
sense if I had broadband. I just wish they had patched MSN Messenger 7.0 for
dialup users and left this extra junk off my PC.
