WLM Beta - wrong sort order

Using WLM latest beta. I had been using messages sorted by conversation
but as many are being "lost" through jumping to lower view I reverted to
sort by "From". Now my incoming messages are all over the place with
respect to date. No matter whether I select descending or ascending there
are some messages that should be at either end but are seen in the middle of
    the list or elsewhere.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding the "From" sort. Is it From by date order
    or something else?

There does not seem to be a way of just sorting by "date" without "by
    conversation"

  2. Let's face it. The sorting of messages in the current beta is royally
screwed up. I wish it would go back to the way it was in Wave 3.

Do you not have Column labels enabled? "From" is the label for the column
containing the author name. Hence the sort order is by author name
(ascending or descending as specified). FWIW I am also seeing messages
sorted by date (e.g. in the Sent column) within the grouping implied by
sorting by From but I don't know if that is common. ICIM my column layout
starts: Flag, Watched, MfO, Subject, Sent, and then From.

    Hi, nobody.

I'm using the WLMail Wave 4 beta, too, in Win7 Ultimate.

In the Message List pane, right-click in the heading of any column, then
choose Columns... Choose any or all from the 9 choices offered. Just as in
    OE/WM/WLM Wave 3...

Click on any column heading to Sort your Message List by that column; click
again to reverse the Sort. Just as in OE, etc.

The From column shows the name of the sender of the message; it is sorted
    alphabetically.

If you want messages to be sorted by Date, then click on the Sent heading.

Maybe I was not explicit enough. The "messages" I am referring to are
email messages not newsgroup one. In newsgroups I can do as you say and
alter the column but I cannot see how to do this in WLM email.

    Hi, Winston.

Both you and Robert have advised using single-line message view. I've
always used that. But, when I click "Message list" on the View ribbon, and
click "Two-line view", I don't see any difference at all. Toggling back to
One-line view also produces no visible effect. Switching from Mail to News
and re-trying the toggles also have no visible effect.

The good news is that the From column is there in all cases.

You DID note the OP's original statement (and the Subject line): "Using WLM
latest beta." And that's what I'm running, too. (See Sig)

Has the Ribbon somehow eliminated Two-line view?

    Hi, nobody.

In WLM Beta 15, click View on the bar above the Ribbon; this chooses the
View Ribbon. Then, near the middle of that line of icons, click "Message
list" (or the little triangle beside it) to see the drop-down menu. This
offers Two-line view, One-line view, or Automatic selection. As I just told
Winston in another message, these toggles make no apparent difference on my
    WLM screens.

Have you followed my former instructions for choosing Columns? For me,
these work the same in both Mail and News. (If they didn't, I'd be quite
upset!) But it is possible to us to set Mail and News differently, so be
sure you know which mode you are in when adjusting these settings.

Do you see the Horizontal Scroll Bar at the bottom of your Message List? If
that appears at all, it means that your displayed columns are too wide for
your screen - at its current settings, at least. As in many other parts of
Windows, just click in the right end of that scroll bar to see what is too
wide to be displayed at current settings. You can adjust the width of each
column individually, either numerically in the Customize... screen or by
simply dragging the bars in the headers that separate the columns. If you
narrow the Subject column, for example, you might find the From column at
the far right of your Message List.

Perhaps you just need to use your mouse and keyboard to play around with
your Column settings for a while and discover for yourself the many ways
that WLMail is adjustable to suit the way you work with it. ;<)

    Hi, again, nobody.

    Followup to my last post...

How do you have your View of WLMail arranged?

We all, I suppose, assume that everybody else is seeing the screen the way
that WE have it arranged, since that is so obviously the best way. We
forget that we all are different and will arrange our screen differently.

MY Reading Pane is at the "Bottom of the message list". With the Folder
list at the left and the Calendar at the right, I have their widths adjusted
so that the central panes are about 10 " wide on my 17" LCD screen (1280 x
1024 resolution). My Message List is at the top and the Reading Pane at the
    bottom of this central section.

If I click Reading pane (in the View Ribbon) and choose Right of the message
list, I end up with only a single column (Subject) in my Message List.
:>( Of course, this means the From column is not gone, it's just scrolled
off to the right of the visible portion of the list. I can click the scroll
bar to see it, but - for me - moving the Reading Pane to below the Message
List is the better solution. Have you tried this?

email messages not newsgroup one. In newsgroups I can do as you say and
alter the column but I cannot see how to do this in WLM email.

  15. Glad yours sorts as desired. Mine does not. In newsgroups I sort by Subject
(not by Conversations). In Wave 3, when sorting by Subject-ascending, it
would also do a secondary sort by Sent-ascending.. That way, messages
with the same Subject would be arranged correctly in chronological order.
In Wave 4, the secondary sort is by Sent-descending. I find that very
annoying. As a workaround, I now sort by Subject-descending and start
replying to messages from the bottom of the message list. But that messes
up the automatic selection of the Next message since it always moves
    downwards regardless of sort order.

Many thanks all sorting fine now.

Perhaps you just need to use your mouse and keyboard to play around with
your Column settings for a while and discover for yourself the many ways
that WLMail is adjustable to suit the way you work with it. ;<)

  16. You DID note the OP's original statement (and the Subject line): "Using

Definitely not. I had completely forgotten about it until I started using
the beta version and got a question from somebody about sorting by
    Attachment... ; )

Yes like you I have it at the bottom
