    Hi Nick,

Just a quick note to say thanks! The Microsoft KB link you provided in your
    reply worked.

I've been having this same problem. Tried all the steps in that KB article
you listed and it didn't help anything. This error started appearing after
I had deleted a group in Live Spaces. Funny thing is that the older
Messenger works just fine, yet as soon as I upgrade to the Beta version it
goes right back to the error 81000451 message.

    Roy,

Try deleting the group in Live Groups. I blocked a test group I created in
Live Messenger and got the 81000451 error message when I signed in again. I
then tried Nick's KB steps and it worked. The only additional step I took was
to delete the group in Live Groups.

The difference is you blocked a group, had the problem, did the KB article
steps then deleted the blocked group and now all is fine. I deleted a group
and now I'm having the problem and the remedy that worked for you didn't
work for me. I've even contacted Tech Support and the response I've gotten
was to uninstall Messenger, delete several folders in my User Profile,
remove several registry keys, reboot, and reinstall Messenger.... still no
    joy.

I like the look and feel of the Beta version and would prefer to use it, but
if this can't be remedied I guess I'll have to go back to the last official
release which BTW works just fine in spite of all this.

I see. Yeah, it's not the same thing. Those are a lot of step you had to do
and nothing happened. I would be bummed out!

I actually use YIM more than I do WLMessenger but decided to give it a try.
It's a cool IM client but most of my contacts are on YIM. I think I'm going
to put off the switch after the beta program ends. I read that RC releases of
the Software side of Windows Live was coming so maybe then it'll be fixed.

Now what I would do to see if it might work would be to recreate the same
group in Live Groups, see if I can log in to WLMessenger, block the group and
    then do the KB steps.

There is always the option, if considering removal of WLMsgr beta, to first follow the Tech Support advice then rather than install
the last official version, install the next official version(which should be released relatively soon).
