WLMD waiting for scan of contactcoll.cache

  1. I'm getting strange Norton Antivirus (2004) scan popups, which I think
are related to WLMD (b1172) and/or WL Messenger (8.1 beta). The two
or three popups say that these two programs are waiting for scans of
contactcoll.cache. What's annoying about them is that the two or
three popups stay displayed for a long period, and if manually closed,
    will
automatically reopen a few moments later.

I'm not sure what triggers this behavior, but once these poppups
appear, WLMD is no longer able to upload any newsgroup messages. So
far, the only way I have been able to get the messages to upload is to
    reboot my computer.

I found the following message displayed in the Send/Receive window:

"Your message was successfully posted. The connection to the community
servers did not succeed. See the News error log for details. Subject
'waiting for scan of "contactcoll.cache"', Account:
    'msnews.microsoft.com', Server: 'msnews.microsoft.com', Protocol:
    HTTP, Port: 80, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 200, Error Number: 0x800CCC19"

In spite of what it says, the message did not get posted to the
    newsgroup.

Anyone else having experiences of a similar nature?

  2. I have been able to eliminate the cascading Norton Scan popups by
excluding them from autoprotect scans. However, the developers may
want to consider rewriting the code to prevent this cascading popup
problem. I'm guessing that these two programs routinely open and
close cantactcoll.cache many times in rapid succession. Eventually,
Norton can't keep up with the large number of scans and slows or halts
    WLMD or WLM.

  4. Find the scan application that is causing it (Likely Norton AV) and
exempt that file from scanning. It was a blessed relief for me!

  6. Depending on what version you have this may vary...

Norton AntiVirus Options > System > AutoProtect > Exclusions > New
    [enter filename] > Ok

You can also go to Symantec's support site and submit a support
    ticket.
