    Hello,

I bought an Acer N311 (upgrading from an Asus 620BT therefore with a
previous install) with windows mobile 5 and activesync 4.1 and 4.2 on a
    Windows XP Pro tablet PC.
I tried with Office 2003 SP1 (or 2 I forgot; the last one) and now curently
    testing Office 2007 beta.
I checked that all service required by AS 4.X are correctly run.
Firewall is correctly set up (trusted zone for the device).

Everything is fine (well except bluetooth but this blue **** NEVER worked
fine) except that any appointments or contact with a note attached or a
picture is never sync-ed to the device (it simply doesn't appear on the
device). When the note is created on the device (if it's not too fancy) it
then appear on the desktop. Modified on the desktop (in date or content) it
has no influence on it's device counterpart, only a modification on the
device has an impact on the desktrop. However even if the note is deleted on
the device the element always react as if it had a note (ie weirdly). The
same goes for pictures in contacts.

I tested an install on a normal Windows XP pro desktop that had never run
activesync (no PDA installed) and upgraded from Office XP to Office 2007
beta... and it works (altough I think 2007 is less relaxed on notes and
didn't sync pictures in contacts when they are set in the device... but at
least it sync-ed all the contacts and appointments!).

On my tablet Pc I tested uninstalling reinstalling Office and activesync but
not thoroughly as it looks like that there is a ghost of the previous
install wandering somewhere (I manage to keep all my settings after
desinstalling and deleting all the many office related folders... : /)

    Please HELP! I'm getting crazy : /

    Thanks a lot

    Dan

  2. Hi Dan,

I have the same problem: tasks and appointments are synced, but the notes
belonging to them are not synced from the desktop to the PocketPC. Problem
occurs with Office 2007, Activesync 4.2 and a JasJar on AKU2.0

    Hi!
In my case unfortunately it's much much worse... as it's not the notes or
pics that are not sync-ed it's the whole element...

And it's not related to the beta as it was the same with Office 2003...

In the note, do you have just text entered, or do you have documents
attached? Note that contacts/appointments with embedded items
(pictures, documents, etc.) have issues synchronizing over - the
embedded items are not supported on Windows Mobile.

I tested everything, from the plain text to bulleted text... I must also
admit that I'm very fond of embedded items in notes, but the the normal
behaviour would be not syncing the note. In my case it's the whole element
(contact or appointment) which is not sync-ed... as long as there is a note
(and/or picture if it's a contact) attached to it. It's a pretty strange
behaviour... I know that all the elements are seen and processed by
activesync as it correctly shows the number of all elements, the elements
with note also appear in the logs without error message (at least obvious
    one) next to them...

    Hi,

It's any kind of note, even plain text... and the normal behaviour would be
not syncing the note but in my case it's the whole appointment or contact
that is not synced : /

Obviously there is a bug somewhere on my system... but please don't ask me
    to reinstall windows :)

Can you try running Help -> Detect and Repair in Outlook, then
reinstall ActiveSync? Also try running ScanPST
    (http://www.slipstick.com/problems/scanpst.htm)

    Hello I tried both...
Outlook detected no errors... but the scanpst "repaired" my pst (and
increased it's size significantly :/ )but nothing changed... :(

I tried Intellisync... and magic! it synced my appointments fine, even
better than Activesync (at least when it works) by syncing even notes with
image (syncing only the text). However... when I added contacts, however it
crashed... it's not really designed for WM2005...

Obviously the problem is in activesync and one of it's "brand new half
tested" process... maybe an xml parser who might interfere with another
program (probably another Microsoft one of course) I don't know, God only
    knows...

I'm tired of playing guinea-pig for microsoft... It's Summer, wasting time
debugging some crappy work while the sun is shinning is a big pain in the
a**!!! I whished I could just take it back to the shop.

Sorry... anyway thank you very much for your help!

Can you try creating a new PST file, copy all the items into the new
PST file, then use it as the main PST file (as an alternate, you can
move the PST file, then allow Outlook to create a new one then import
    the old PST file).

Well it looks like you're a man who never gives up :) thanks, that gives me
a little strength to keep searching...

I already did this... as I started with the first outlook my PST was still
in the old 97 format (not unicode), and I thought it might be the problem...
So I copied all my items to a new pst with the new format... At least now
the message headers are fine even in russian... but it didn' improve
    anything regarding my syncing problem...

What I haven't done yet is a complete and real uninstall of office (I heard
tweakall allowed this... I hope it works also for Office beta).

The other track might be to hunt all the progs that might interfere with
    outlook... I traced already four:
-Spambayes (but it should deal only with mails)
-Mindmanager 3 (but the outlook addon is already deactivated...)
-Acrobat writer (but it worked fine on the other system with acrobat
    installed)
-checklist pro (I already uninstalled it... changed nothing...)

I think that when I find the courage to spend another afternoon I'll
uninstall everything office and the might be interfering programs
    alltogether...

    Thanks again for your help!

I triggered some settings within intellisync and it managed to sync almost
everything... but it cannot manage the photo ID on the mobile (it's not yet
perfectly designed for WM5 I guess) ... The other problem is that it goes
berserk after finishing the job and ask for a dll... not really a stable
    thing with WM5 :)
I wonder if I use activesync 3.8 if I would achieve the same thing?

Therefore I believe there is no problem with the data or with outlook but
most probably within activesync 4.X and some new (XML?) parser used to read
    the outlook elements...

Was everything synchronizing OK with Outlook 2003?

Also, antivirus programs can sometimes interfere - especially if they
notice you're trying to take stuff out from Outlook.

It was exactly the same problem... that's why I installed office2007 to see
if a fresh install would improve things...

I already disabled the antivirus/firewall but no improvement. And the same
AV/FW was used on another system with a fresh Office2007 install and it
    worked fine.

I managed to sync "normaly" with Intellisync trial but this program is not
freeware and even heavier in memory than Activesync!!! It synced all the
elements perfectly including "rich" notes except the contacts photos which
made the prog crash (I guess it's the same for everyone as it's not
    advertised as WM5 compatible).

It's either that there are some remnants of a previous active sync, maybe in
a different langage (I mixed french and english)... or some remnant of an
office setting that the new activesync cannot handle... or some forgotten
work around code in AS4 that get triggered on my system and that skip
syncing elements with notes (I have no error message! and the elements are
correctly counted), but then I shouldn't be the only one ... It's pretty
weird... But if Intellisync managed to sync it then it means that there is
no problem in the data itself, but in the way AS 4 handle it.

Therefore I think that the problem might be in activesync and
