wmiprvse.exe consumes 100% of CPU usage

We are currently changing from NT4.0 to Windows 2003
server, we are encountering this problem:

    wmiprvse.exe hogs cpu.

After booting up in administration mode the CPU consumes
100% of the available usages. There are 7 or 8 instances
or (image name) of "wmiprvse.exe running in "Task
Manager". If all the instances are ended but one that last
one will consume 100% until it is ended, then it drops to
5%-12%. I believe there is a connection to ("WMI") 2003
Windows Management Services Integration with 2003 server.
Is anyone else have this problem and if so is there a
solution or a hot fix. Would appreciate any input
If all the "wimiprvse.exe" processes are ended there seems
to be no losing in performance until a reboot, then it
returns hogging the CPU at 100%, again.

  2. Jerry,

I have seen this happen a couple of times at some of my customer sites with
Windows Server 2003. I have found a LOT of the time it was caused by old or
bad network card drivers and bad chipset drivers. From what I understand WMI
is trying to poll information and it cannot because of various problems with
    the drivers.

I would start by getting the latest and greatest drivers for both your
motherboard chipset and your network adapter...
