WMP 10 crashing after recent security updates

WMP 10 was working perfectly until the most recent security fixes. Now,
whenever I use it to play online content, I get the message Windows Media
Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
    inconvenience.

I move that little box to the bottom right of my screen and watch whatever I
am playing, but it is very annoying. I have tried installing WMP 11 and it
reports it encounters and error and can't install.

I have tried reinstalling WMP 10 and that doens't fix the problem. I tried
uninstalling it entirely from my system to the reinstall it, and when I go to
add/remove programs and chosse view updates, it isn't listed there, even
    though I'm using it.

Thanks very much for your help!

  2. WMP is a feature of the Windows operating system and cannot be removed
entirely. However you might be able to roll back to the version of the
Player that was previously on your computer:
First you can also use System Restore to roll back to the previous version.
    If you can not:
Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs/check Show updates
