WMP: My library has disappeared!

Hi, I run Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop, version 11 player. I
recently changed all my song formats to MP3s to avoid the trouble with WMAs.
After several months of inactivity, I opened the player to find my entire
library view gone. This message took its place: "There are no items in this
library yet - the Player is searching for digital media files in the
background. Click here to add files to the library now."
After much waiting, there are no music files. The 'click here' brings me to
an 'add folder' dialog box, where I add the folders where my music is (still
in the same place), but the player is refusing to pull songs from those
    folders.

The kicker is that when I double-click a playlist, it plays! The library
remains empty, but the Now Playing window has the full playlist. I don't get
    it! Please help, and thanks.

Hi, the very same thing happened to me just a few days ago and I haven't
managed to resolve it yet. Did you get any help on how to fix this problem.
    Thanks

    Hi zachd,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I'm not as computer savvy as I need to
be. I identified the files and processes you mentioned in your FAQs page, but
I'm falling short of the actual answer. What file am I renaming and what am I
    renaming it? Thanks

Try doing that in the Services control panel.
